Community Council Meeting Minutes - DRAFT

Those in attendance: Rachelle Moore, Shawn Ferriola, Marci Thorstead, Cindy Waters, Krystin Amaya, Chris Davies, Monica Widdison, Emily Farr, Adrianna Griffey, Amy Hadley, Terra Torgerson, Rusti Hammer, Steve Merrell, Cecilia Morrison, and Ryan James. 

 

Last meeting: Discussions of Safety Report and Digital Citizenship Report

 

Approval of Minutes from 1/10/21: The minutes were approved. Motion to approve Rachelle Moore; Adrianna Griffey seconded. Minutes are approved.

 

Overview: Cindy Waters led the agenda through the checklist.

 

WSD Technical Services Safe Technology Utilization and Digital Citizenship Report:

WSD filters the internet through iboss. Firewalls are configured through firewalls.

Filtered by staff and students and inappropriate categories are all blocked. 

Different approval status for different schools by administrators on Youtube. Google safe search. Device Management: JAMF for Apple, Net support for desktops, Chromebase for Google management. 

CIPA: (Child internet Protection Act) we are compliant with the law. BARK monitoring for what they are doing on chromebook. Notifications for parents and Principal, if it is severe there will be notifications after hours. 

Digital Literacy: Teachers provide digital literacy lessons at the beginning of the year, through Nearpod through Common Sense Education grades K-12. Home Resource for Google INTERLAND: Be Internet Awesome ages 7-12 but could be good to do as a family.

 

Question and Answer Session: No questions asked to the presenters. 

 

Other Business:

PTA wanting to teach digital literacy for White Ribbon Week March 23rd Wednesday, Be a media detective. 6:00 was suggested not later than that. Lunch time activities will also be happening during this week. Teachers and parents will get discussion guides for important topics. Get students and peer leaders to help promote the literacy night to get good attendance. 

 

Suggestion on a Google form to send to parents for a survey for needs. Send digitally after the literacy night for those that can’t attend. 

 

Questions on the Tik Tok shooting scare and wondered if anything came up and what was done. This school offered emotional support to those that were worried. 

 

Future Meeting Dates: Wednesday, February 16, 2022 @ 4:00 p.m.Third week due to conferences; Wednesday March 9, 2022 @4:00 p.m.; Wednesday, April 13, 2022 if needed.
