Community Council Meeting Minutes

Date: Nov. 11, 2020

Time: 4:00 to 5:00 pm

Location: Country View Library

Those in Attendance:  Heather Hales, Steve Merrill, Jen Thomas, Rachelle Moore, Rusti Hammer, Carmen Graham, and Cindy Waters

Last Meetings Minutes (10/7/2020): The minutes were approved for Mar. 11, 2020 meeting by Heather Hales and seconded by Cindy Waters.

School Update: Mrs. Hales read an email from a parent that is very pleased with the sanitation the school is doing for PLC rotation. Students are given hand sanitizer between every PLC rotation, chairs are sanitized, and teachers have scheduled hand washing times. Mrs. Hales stated that “Health and Safety Come First!” Long term online learners were moved to Weber Online. Every student has their own online teachers. Country View teachers are still reaching out to long term online students so they stay connected to their home school. A percentage of online students are not doing their online work which is a big concern.

School Wide Behavior Plan: Carmen presented a schoolwide behavior plan powerpoint. Our plan is called a “Positive School Wide Behavior Plan”. A big focus is on positive interactions and relationship building with students. Students are given colt tickets that are used for colt pride incentive activities. A colt pride pledge is done every morning to build a positive school culture. Each grade is making a video of announcements with the colt pride pledge. Teachers are asked to give 2 tickets to each student every day. Carmen discussed the 5 activities done in September for colt pride activities. The school has started Student Input Sessions with 5th and 6th grade students . Students discuss their ideas and concerns twice a month on Wednesdays. Students in this group are also planning and implementing service projects. Country View, unlike many other schools,  has a behavior coach (Carmen Graham). Carmen supports teachers with difficult student behaviors. Carmen does  the following: think sheets, scheduled student breaks, behavior tracks, and classroom support. The following is in place for challenging behaviors:  behavior coach, school counselor, office referrals, and restorative practices.

School Wide Reading Data:  Mrs.Thomas went over Acadience (DIBELs) data for the beginning of the school year. Most grades are starting the year 10 to 20 percent lower than previous years. Every grade is doing “Colt Time” which is a reading intervention for 15 minutes 4 days a week to improve reading deficits.

Leader In Me: Heather discussed doing Leader in Me next year as a school. Leader in Me focuses on behavior and leadership skills. Schools using this program in WSD have been transformed. Heather is hoping to spend $6,000 to $8,000 on this program starting next year. The leadership team will be trained first then they will train the entire school.

Meeting in Jan.?: Cindy wondered about a meeting in Jan. Heather is not planning on a January meeting.

Plans for Feb. 2021 Meeting:  Go over Project Lead the Way progress, chrome book, and Leader in Me.

The meeting was adjourned.
